Installing ImageScience on Windows

Posted by tsenyurt on February 26, 2009

If you are planning to use ImageScience, an image library for your rails projects you have to do a few steps below. I came across this library while I was searching for a solution for the Rmagick’s memory leak problem.

Make sure that you have installed ruby and gem on your machine.

1. Install RubyInline

Open the cmd window and type the following in order to install ruby inline gem.

 gem install --include-dependencies RubyInline

2. Install FreeImage

You have to install the FreeImage library, you can download it from here. Extract the arch’ve and place the FreeImage.dll to c:/windows/system32 folder.

** For ubuntu users, you can install freeimage by installing libfreeimage-dev

3. Install ImageScience

First of all download ImageScience gem here and save it to a location. Open the command prompt and type the following for the manual gem  installation

gem install "C:\path_to_save_location\image_science-1.1.3-i386-mswin32.gem"

An we are done, you can test the installation with irb

require "rubygems"
require "image_science"

have to return “true”.

Happy coding…

A new life, but not single…

Posted by tsenyurt on February 06, 2009

Getting marriedToday is the last day of my “single” life. Tomorrow, I’ll be married. I’ll have another brain to think, another heart to fill, another myself to trust and to be trusted. It was never been  a ceremony of answering “yes” to the “question” for me, besides tomorrow is the day that we’ll be a family.

I think that in that journey for everything happened and lived, tomorrow is a bright new beginning for me and Pırıl. When I just stop and think, it has been a long time, I’m really happy that I have someone that I love the most and be loved.

Thank you for never giving up on me Pırıl and thank you for you never will.

Thank you for that credit card abstract, it was the first and the last one make me smile and changed my life forever.

 I love you.

This week past so fast, I’m arranging the background musics for the weeding and so many other details. I’m a little tired. Hopefully, I’ll have some time to rest.

The journey 2

I’m on the road again. Hopefully I’ve got an Internet connection on the bus. I suppose that they’re using GPRS connection to get Internet working on the move. It’s interesting that just 10 years before we have Internet connections only in offices and houses and they are not wireless at all.
Anyways my vacation ends by the end of august so I have 3 days left and I’ll be on the road for 26 hours of it.

bored, bored and bored

Posted by tsenyurt on November 06, 2007

I am really bored nowadays. Work is getting most of my time with the suit and a tie. I have to make a plan and stick on that from now on. First of all I have to involve in that furniture thing than start doing some sports and I really want to deal with some music. I really cannot arrange lots of things in one sit. Everything about my “new” life is just sitting and queued but I have no time for them unfortunately. Got the energy and no time.

got my mac broken

Posted by tsenyurt on September 26, 2007

ok here is the deal. how difficult its to change a harddisk on a mac. here is what happens next :macbook

  • I opened the gate for hd
  • I cannot detach the tray because of the silly screws, because only apple services have them
  • I finally got it detached.
  • I replace the new hardrive
  • I cannot really make it screwed.
  • I tried the put it between rails. oh s.it the rails are rubber and they did not really glued, so they came out
  • I realised that its impossible to place in the tray with the rubber rails.
  • I accidently broke a cable just placed between the RAM slots, it seems to be placed to be accidently broken
  • I gave up. all my fault.

So as a lesson to take, yes it can be hard to replace a notebook disk if you are dealing with apple.

david brown and the cold sunday

Posted by tsenyurt on September 24, 2007

David Brown from brazzaville was in İstanbul for a special solo performance and suprisingly I was there too this time. I’ve missed the last visit in 2005 but this time I had the chance to listen him live. It was not a big concert besides It was actually like an unplugged one. Little speakers, nice melodies and beer. Still got lots of things to do at work and for life, I had to find an apartment and move immediately before the winter comes. I actually missed the Ruby on rails and get things done with rortr.com. But I realised that its been a long time that I had o time for rest enough. Anyways, It was a cold sunday, but a nice one. waiting for songs ohia ;).

ipod touch, just launched

Posted by tsenyurt on September 13, 2007

Apple annouced the new ipod series. The most interesting one is the ipod touch. It is similar to the iphone without the phone interface. However apple decided to take the applications out from this model. Nobody knows the reason or the complete installed applications, yes it can handle videos, pictures and music and browsing but what about the calendar, address book and skype of course.
These will be hacked to be installed soon, anyways I just had my ipod nano stolen, that would be a nice president for me. (I wish I had a brother in US right now ;) )

istanbul

Another good reason to hate this city, last weekend somebody broke in to my house. My psp, ipod and some stuff were stolen and I realized that I couldn’t even worry about that. I was starting to hate Istanbul since this year, actually I’m planning to celebrate the next year till morning, because 2007 had lots of trouble to me. When made a quick research on my worst days, I saw that they usually sum up to the number 9, like 2007, 18 th of August, 27th of August and so on. Anyways, I got my visa for Ireland/Dublin. I hope I won’t have the flight on 27th.

heading dublin

I got my invitation for the on site interview with Google. I have no clue about the interview details. However I’m sure it will be a positive experience to interview with Google in the first place. I checked the office in Dublin from Google earth and the weather of course :). I think they have a nice one because those days Istanbul is about 35C. So in 2-3 weeks or sooner I’ll be in Dublin European HQ.

google, whats next?

Posted by tsenyurt on August 13, 2007

google dublinSo, i passed the technical interview with google Dublin, and waiting for the invitation to get the visa. Its really annoying to take the visa, because it usually lasts for 2-3 weeks waiting. I’ve a last on site interview at Google Dublin European headquarters. By the way Turkey still has no good offer to stay. Nowadays if I’ll have my table comfortable , I’ll continue to the None Eye Open Project using ruby. Unfortunately I’ll have to start it from scratch, because I lost my backup for this project, at least the I got the ideas. First thing to do is getting a free SVN account from freshmeat, rubyforge …etc. Anyways, got to go. Wish me luck.
